MUSIC STYLE NEEDS –

1.    SPOT KC1 -  Kansas City Blues style: Temp style is Albert King’s “Kansas City” – Instrumental Only okay...  or Vocal songs (if lyric references Kansas City that's a plus)...  Not looking for an actual cover of the famous song "Kansas City" (aka: I'm Going To Kansas City) - want an easily licenseable original...

1.    SPOT A1 -  Traditional Black Gospel: Temp style is Mahalia Jackson’s “Didn’t It Rain” – looking for (a) similar cover recording of this song, (b) other traditional songs in the same vein – male or female okay, (c) original songs in this style (male or female okay) *Lyrical aesthetic can be about redemption, being saved, life is better, glory… PLEASE LISTEN TO TEMP AND KEEP IN MIND THE EMOTIONAL ASPECT AS WELL AS STYLE

1B.    new - SPOT A2 -  Black Church Gospel: ala Mahalia Jackson, Shirley Caesar, Mississippi Mass Choir - something that would play on an old time gospel radio hour - nothing 'contemporary' - what a 90 year old southern African American grandma would listen to while rocking in her chair (ballad or midtempo easy listening), female or choir...

2.    updated - SPOT B -  Soul R&B: (ala Solomon Burke or Bill Withers) Temp songs to style after are Solomon Burke’s “Don’t Give Up On Me” and “None Of Us Are Free” – can be old school or new originals – but the essence sonically and lyrically of those temps. PLEASE LISTEN TO TEMP SONGS AND KEEP IN MIND THE EMOTIONAL AND LYRICAL AESTHETICS AS WELL AS STYLE  (*LYRIC TOPICS: redemption, we've made it through, together we can make it, overcoming hardships, uplifted, life is good)

3.    SPOT C -  R&B/Blues: Temp style ala Benjamin Booker “Believe”, Leon Bridges "Coming Home", Alabama Shakes, Citizen Cope – midtempos, good feel, or moving tempo ballads; lyrically open/general (topics: home, getting a break, redemption, I’ll make it through (uplifting), I’ll take care of you, family togetherness, home again, here after all this time) (*scene is a man cleaning up his old home as he awaits the return of his wife and daughter after many years)

5. SPOT F – mid-1960’s style country pop standard (doesn't have to be specific to period, but in the sonic/style of...) – ala the temp song: Brenda Lee’s “I Wonder”

6. updated - SPOT G - mid-2000’s style southern bluesy pop radio (doesn't have to be specific to period, but in the sonic/style of...) – general/generic (for car radio source quiet background) - Think of blending the bluesy side of the Black Keys (Lies, I Got Mine, Hurt Like Mine) and the soulful side of Gnarls Barkley (Who’s Gonna Save My Soul, A Little Better) with old school South Carolina blues of Son House, Rev. Gary Davis, Otis Rush, Albert King, JJ Cale, Mac Arnold [ the African American side of South Carolina - midtempo vibe - nothing too down or to up]
